Description
M1943 Entrenching Tool with Cover--1943/44Original WW2 GI M1943 entrenching tool with cover, as follows:
Tool: Folding steel blade with hard wood handle and heavy cast aluminum locking nut. Well marked US WOOD 1944 on one side of blade. Still retains approx. 97-98% original dark OD green factory painted finish, appears to have never been used and has never been repainted. Some discoloration to edges on back side of blade due to leather lining inside cover, but will clean easily if desired.
Cover: Dark OD #7 canvas and web construction with brown leather reinforcement strips inside and fixed belt hook on back. Well marked U.S. on front, BOYT -43- under flap. Lift dot snap is marked KLIKIT PULL. Small wear spot to canvas at front center of flap, otherwise cover appears to have seen little use.
Set is exactly as I found it at a southeast Texas antique market about 30 years ago. While the M1943 E Tool is the easiest to find of all the WW2 GI field tools, finding one with its original factory painted finish is pretty hard, since most were reissued and repainted well into the 1970s. Nice clean piece for any WW2 GI field tools or field gear collection/display and is in excellent condition. Any questions please feel free to ask.
