Up for sale is a rare WWII era No.5 binnacle compass made by John E. Hand & Sons company for the US Navy. It is about 6 1/4" high and weighs about 9 lbs. A little heavy giant that I think might be in working condition. I am not a specialist in compasses so I am selling it as is, but I've rotated the compass and I can see that the disk inside the window filled with liquid is moving. The glass inside is intact and I do not see any cracks or breakages. There is some metal oxidation on the bottom but I think it could be cleaned successfully. Nobody cleaned or restored this compass for years. It could be a great restoration project, or this compass might be left as is because it might be in working order. I think the reason it is heavy is that it is mostly made of brass or bronze. It is quite an interesting and great-looking piece of military technology from the past.
