Description
The US military saw the success of German paratroopers in 1940, and quickly set about creating its own elite airborne units. US paratroopers jumped on Sicily in Operation Husky in 1943, and dropped into Normandy during the D-Day invasion in 1944. Those "devils in baggy pants" were issued a distinctive spot camouflage parachute, any surviving sections of which remain scarce today. This US Army WW2 D-DAY PARATROOPER AIRBORNE SPOT CAMO PARACHUTE SECTION is in very good condition, having been recently hand cut with pinking shears, and with some uneven cutting to the edges, several scattered small holes, tears, and spots of soiling throughout, some light overall wrinkling, and with some scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the section is in fine shape, with no other damage to the smooth nylon construction. Most interestingly, it measures about 35" x 28" in an oblong rectangular shape, retains a great amount of the vibrant spot camouflage colors, and boasts a diagonal line of white stitching along the middle. A fine example of a rare, originalUS Army WW2 D-DAY PARATROOPER AIRBORNE SPOT CAMO PARACHUTE SECTION
