Description

The .45 pistol was developed for the US Army in 1911 after the .38 failed to stop charging Moro warriors in the Philippines. The US Army issued the powerful .45 during WW2, and it was most often carried in a rugged brown leather holster worn on the pistol belt. This US Army USMC Marine WW2 COLT 1911 .45 ENGER-KRESS M-1916 LEATHER PISTOL HOLSTER is in good condition, having been recently treated with leather conditioner, and with moderate drying and surface cracking along the top fold of the front flap, some drying, nicking, and crazing to the front flap, some verdigris to the darkened brass hardware, some scattered darkening throughout, some drying and surface cracking to the tie-down lace at bottom, and with some overall age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the holster is in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough brown leather construction. Most interestingly, it bears the classic oval "US" stamping with serifs at front, carries the original sewn leather "block" inside, and is marked at the upper back with its maker and date, "ENGER-KRESS / 1942". It boasts a fully functional darkened brass stud closure front flap, sports a fully intact darkened metal wire hanger at the top reverse, and features the original rawhide leather tie-down thong elegantly knotted and laced through the bottom grommet.
