ATLAS V PATCH AV-053 BOOSTER MISSION TO LAUNCH NASA MMS SATELLITE VEHICLE INTO SPACE
THIS IS A 4" PATCH AND IS IN MINT CONDITION.
The Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission patch is octagonal shaped with the four MMS observatories stacked together in the middle. The MMS observatories will investigate the microphysics of magnetic reconnection, a universal process that occurs in the outer boundary of the Earth’s magnetosphere where magnetic energy is explosively released. This process can affect performance of technologies such as GPS, telecommunication, and even fusion reactors. The NASA text is displayed on the left-hand side of the patch. The Atlas “A” is displayed on the patch to represent ULA’s efforts. The 5 stars "V" represent the 5th Space Launch Squadron efforts. The rocket configuration for this launch is an Atlas V 421 shown on the right. The mission name is inscribed along the top of the patch.
