Shatner blasted off onboard the New Shepard spacecraft, developed by Jeff Bezos' rocket company, Blue Origin. Bezos, a lifelong "Star Trek" fan, flew Captain Kirk as a guest. Accompanied at full fare by Chris Boshuizen of satellite company Planet Labs, and by Glen de Vries (RIP), a software executive. Also among the crew was Audrey Powers, Blue Origin's vice president of mission and flight operations.

New Jersey state police that Glen de Vries perished in a small
plane accident on Thursday (11/11/21) in Sussex County.
